One Year Bible Study, 2010
Using the One-Year Bible, the church I attend is reading the whole Bible through in 2010. I have been a Bible teacher for over 30 years, and thought that I would write comments on the portions that are assigned for each day.
I will not be posting the actual Scriptures, as you can read those for yourself. I will be using the New International Version (NIV), but will refer to the King James for study purposes, as all the reference books are keyed to the King James.
To begin, I would like to give you some hints about maximizing and enhancing your Bible reading:
1. Bible reading is a command by God and aided by the Holy Spirit, so God is pleased when I read it. I feel His pleasure in me as I read.
2. Reading the Bible links me to God and to Eternity. I expect to sense God's Presence as I read.
3. Reading the Bible is not just for information, but for transformation. The Word of God will go to work on the inside of me, cleansing me and changing my character.
4. Having the Word of God in me keeps me from sinning because the Bible strengthens my spirit, refreshes my conscience, informs my mind, reassures my heart of the correctness of God, reminds me of who I am.
5. Let the Bible speak for itself. Compare Scriptures if you want to.
6. Do not read the Bible like a textbook. It is a living and interactive Book.
7. Keep a notebook handy. Write down questions. Write down impressions. Write down verses that impress you somehow.
Tomorrow I will address our first assignment: Genesis 1-2:25; Matthew 1:1-2:12; Psalm 1:1-6; Proverbs 1:1-6.
